Many people think that both career and job are the same things. Well, in reality, the case is not so. Both things are somewhat similar up to a level, that is one of the purposes behind both of them is same but at the same time quite different also as end what you achieve is different in both.

The main motive behind a job is to earn you a paycheck, it is something you do every day just to pay your bills and fulfil your basic daily needs and amenities while a career is something that earns you work experience. It’s something that takes time and is built over years. A job isn’t future-centric that is you don’t look forward to any future in it. It has nothing to do with your future achievements and has more to do with the present moments to support yourself. A career is a lifelong professional journey. The purpose of your career is to support your lifestyle while chasing your goals and ambitions. Here, are a few differences between career and job which will help you differentiate both of them more easily:

1. Non-Monetary Extra Benefits

With a career, apart from the money you earn, you also get other full-time benefits such as paid leaves, sick leaves, health insurance, pension after retirement, stocks/stakes and other perks. But, the case isn’t so with a job. Jobs typically don’t come with such types of benefits.

2. Educational Qualification

A career demands more academic qualifications and degree possession than as compared to jobs. A person needs to be comparatively more educated as well as domain-specifically trained.

3. Intention

While the main intention behind a career is to build your lifestyle while achieving your goals and ambitions, the main intention behind a job is to earn bare money for survival. Career is more often chosen based on talents and passions while jobs are more often chosen based on necessities. A career has long-term goals while a job involves achieving short-term goals.

4. Working Hours

People in their careers work for a regular fixed number of hours. They have a fixed salary and aren’t paid based on the hours they work for. With a job, your work remains to be more time-oriented. In a job your employer pays you based on the number of hours, you work for him/her. Basically, in a career, your salary is fixed while it varies in a job. It more on less depends on the number of hours you devote to work.

5. Security

A career may not mean security as it encourages one to take planned risks while it is not the case with a job. You are more secure in a job as you are given a fixed amount of income. Although it doesn't mean jobs are completely safe as it depends more on the market trend. You can lose your job due to some external factors.

However, jobs are necessary for a bright career. Jobs earn you the required training and work experience necessary for building a successful career. You learn a variety of skills and gain knowledge. For instance, consider working at a Barista store, on a busy day you might be overloaded with work. While tackling this situation will teach you the quality of time management. Jobs also expose you to a different set of people and working professionals with different ways of thinking and working. Building suitable relations with them and maintaining them can prove to be beneficial while building your career. In this way, jobs help you build a strong network. A long-term job gradually turns into your career. Both of them are quite interrelated to each other. Jobs are necessary to build a successful career. One can't neglect the importance of a job before building a budding career.
