Now, this is one of the most hyped topics and probably also one of the very least talked about. Many students just choose the stream which their parents forced them to or that the school gave them. Well, the case shouldn’t be so. The students have to live their own life and survive.
No other person can decide what they want from their life. Might be dancing gives
you that pleasure in your life which a stable 9-5 IT sector job can’t! Comparing everything
with the amount of money isn’t apt. At the end of the day, it should be you who should be
happy about your life, and about the choices, you have made from it. You shouldn’t have
anyone to blame except yourself for anything. When a student pursues the stream of his/her
choice, his/her profession no longer remains a burden rather they enjoy every single bit of it.
Nowadays, after graduation many students just change their career paths completely, the
reason being the same, earlier they choose the stream because of parental, societal or peer
pressure. If they could have invested that time from start in that field itself, they could be at
some other level in that field. Streams shouldn’t be decided based on the marks you get in
your class 10 board examination rather they should be decided based on personal interests.
But, our education system has been interpreted in such a way that a student pursuing a
science stream is considered to be superior as compared to someone pursuing a commerce or
arts stream. In reality, this is not the case.Â
Before selecting any stream, a student must keep in his/her mind the following points, and
then choose the right stream for them accordingly:
He/she must take a slight idea about each of the streams and then choose accordingly. He/she must feel excited after reading the subjects in that stream. He/she must be passionate about the subjects in that stream. If one is passionate about maths and calculation then commerce and science are the best fit for such students. If you have an interest in knowing more about ancient India, then you must choose subjects related to history. In such case, Humanities will be the best fit for one.
One must know about their strengths and weaknesses. Manier times, students tell they have an interest in the Science stream, the reason for same could be peer pressure, parental pressure or influence by some other but their scorecards reflect an entirely different scenario. They have more scores in the Social Science subject. At that time, they are unable to evaluate and think about it and later realise, they have made the wrong choice. At such points, nothing much can be done for the same, other than continuing with the same stream. A student must think thoroughly and if he/she feels that he/she has more interest in subjects related to social sciences then he/she must consider pursuing Humanities instead of science.
Now, before pursuing any stream and deciding your career goals, make a financial plan about the amount of money you would require to invest to reach your goal. This also plays a very major role. Accordingly, align your career goals and aims.
Here, is a brief description of each stream, career options after pursuing a particular stream and scopes in it:
This field is mainly related to medical studies and Engineering. Science has always been the most sought-after stream amongst all the streams available and the most lucrative to study, but it is not a stream that you can just study without having any interest in it. The main core subjects that are taught in science are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics. After pursuing this stream, a student can make his/her career in the medical/engineering field or in the field of research. Students targeting for medical have Physics, Chemistry and Biology as their core subjects while students targeting for engineering field have Physics, Chemistry and Maths as their core subjects. Students can also choose Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Maths i.e., 4 core subjects if they have not yet decided or want to pursue either of them later in future.
The Commerce field is all about studying subjects related to trading, business, finance, and economics. This stream is preferred by students who wish to embark on a career or profession in MNCs, Banks, or entrepreneurship. The core/main subjects that are taught are Business Studies, Economics and Accounts. Students have the option to either pursue commerce with or without maths based upon their grip on the subject. A large number of career opportunities are available after this stream also.
After choosing Humanities a student can study subjects such as History, Geography, Psychology, Political Science, Literature, Journalism, or Mass Media. Choosing the Humanities stream can prove to be a great opportunity for your career, as the wide range of subjects available offers great career options for one to pursue. Also, if a student aims for being an IAS officer or desires to get into other civil services, this is the best field to go for as a student gets loads of time for preparation as well as the syllabus remains more or less to be almost the same.
